White House Releases Federal Agencies’ Proposed Regulatory Reform Plans

Agencies Are to Finalize Plans Later in 2011

On January 18, 2011, President Obama issued Executive Order 13563, ‘‘Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review.’’   The Executive Order directed agencies to develop and submit a preliminary plan within 120 days that will explain how they will review existing significant regulations and identify regulations that can be made more effective or less burdensome in achieving regulatory objectives.

BLM Hosts Discussion of Closure of Public Lands in Payette County to Protect Rare Plant

BOISE – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host two public meetings to ask for public input into long-term management of 7,100 acres of public lands where a rare plant, Packard’s milkvetch, is found.

Meetings will be held in Payette and Emmett, Idaho, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as follows:
· June 8th at McCain Middle School, 400 North Iowa Avenue in Payette;
· June 9th at Emmett High School, 721 West 12th Street in Emmett.

Under GOP pressure, Obama abandons wilderness plan

Under pressure from Congress, the Obama administration is backing away from a plan to make millions of acres of undeveloped land in the West eligible for federal wilderness protection.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in a memo Wednesday that his agency will not designate any of those public lands as “wild lands.” Instead Salazar said officials will work with members of Congress to develop recommendations for managing millions of acres of undeveloped land in the West.
